MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Greetings Rotarian Friends and Family Members,
It gives us immense pleasure to publish this SPECIAL EDITION which is to commemorate our
Rotary Foundation Month-cum- Diwali Edition. Each Rotary year the Rotary International
President pins a "motto" for the Rotary year. There have been many great ones, some short and
some long, yet all that sum up the vision of Rotary.
As far as this Special Issue is concerned, this issue is being published for you all Rotarians
especially for the 30 New Members who due to Pandemic have had no acquaintance with the
existing Rotarians and Hence they are mostly dormant members and these Rotarians need to
know what Rotary is all about. So, this issue is going to be helpful to all the existing as well as the
new members. As this Bulletin will be sent to other Rotarians also, the information given in this
issue shall be very helpful to all those who read or go through this bulletin.
While mission statements guide the organization in its day-to-day operations, visions provide
a sense of direction for the long term the means to the future. Visions are quite often the
simple part, with the hard part being the executionturning the vision into reality. A popular
saying, "If you can dream it, you can do it". But first, you must hold the dream and remain
focused on what is desired. Rotary provides many Rotarians the means to accomplish their
dreams. Rotarians often find a particular program which becomes a passion.
COVID-19 Pandemic: The speed, alacrity and heart with which the entire Rotary world,
particularly Rotarians in India, and especially our Rotary Club of Chikhli River Front responded to
the COVID-19 pandemic is heart-warming. Without any nudging from anybody, India Rotarians
quickly reached relief in terms of critical hospital equipment, sanitisers, masks, PPEs, Food Kits,
Groceries and cooked meals to lakhs of impoverished migrant workers, daily wagers and
homeless people across the country. These are times when organisations’ core values are tested,
and during this horrific pandemic Rotarians proved Rotary’s central motto — Service Above Self
is more than mere words.
It required a tiny virus to bring our arrogance down several notches and give back some place
and privileges we had usurped to other forms of life on our planet. The real test will come when
this pandemic is behind us, as it is bound to be. Hopefully a better clone of the arrogant, selfish
human being will emerge when we slowly begin to come out of our homes… and along with
physical freedom, our locked down brains, hearts and souls will emerge free too.
Be yourself. Dismiss superfluous advice that seeks to change who you are. As a Rotarian, you
have your own special skills and talent, education and grasp of important issues. Remain your
own person to spread cheer in the world.
As you learn more about Rotary perhaps you, too, will discover a passion for helping others.
It may be supporting our Rotary Foundation in general or designating Funds for a specific
program. Let us know if you have a vision for our Club.
We at RCCRF have continued working during the pandemic and have never looked back. By
the time this issue reaches you we may have performed more than 35 service projects, which
itself is a major achievement.
We have applied for Global Grant to acquire Mobile Cancer Detection Unit, which is in the
advance decision-making stage. We need to work hard towards implementation once our grant
is approved. We shall need co-operation of all the Rotarians and Clubs to make this Project a very
big success and try our best to save lives.
HAPPY DIWALI WISHES AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU
HAPPY READING TO ALL OF YOU!
Yours sincerely
HASSAN ISMAIL MAYET
PRESIDENT 2020-21
RCCRF CHAKRA 13 NOVEMBER 2020 DIWALI CUM FOUNDATION MONTH SPECIAL ISSUE
NOVEMBER IS THE ROTARY FOUNDATION MONTH
The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into
projects that change lives both close to home and
around the world. As the charitable arm of Rotary
International, we tap into a global network of
Rotarians who invest their time, money, and
expertise into our priorities, such as eradicating
polio and promoting peace.
Foundation grants empower Rotarians to
approach challenges such as poverty, illiteracy, and
malnutrition with sustainable solutions that leave
a lasting impact.
Strong financial oversight, a stellar charity rating,
and a unique funding model mean that we make
the very most of your contribution. Give and
become a part of Rotary’s life-changing work!
GUIDING PRINCIPLES The 4-Way Test
For more than 100 years, our guiding principles
have been the foundation upon which our values
and tradition stand. The Four-Way Test, Object of
Rotary, and the Avenues of Service express our
commitment to service, fellowship, diversity,
integrity, and leadership.
What is the 4-Way Rotary Test?
The Four-Way Test
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER
FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
5. Why is the Rotary Four Way Test relevant today?
The four brief questions in The Four-Way Test are not
based on culture or religion.
They transcend generations and national borders. They
are as relevant today as they were 75 years ago
because the issues of morality and ethical behaviour
that existed then still exist today.
Who wrote the Rotary 4 Way Test?
Herbert J. Taylor. The author of the 4-Way Test is
Herbert J. Taylor. He was a member of the Chicago
Rotary Club and a prosperous businessman.
Interestingly, Herb originally wrote the test, not for
Rotary, but for a troubled business that he had taken
over.
The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian
ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal
and professional relationships. The second tenet of
the Four-Way Test, “Is it fair to all concerned”,
serves as a beacon to Rotarians worldwide.

HISTORY OF THE ROTARY
FOUNDATION
At the 1917 convention, outgoing RI
President Arch C. Klumph proposed to set
up an endowment “for the purpose of doing
good in the world.” In 1928, it was renamed
The Rotary Foundation, and it became a
distinct entity within Rotary International.
GROWTH OF THE FOUNDATION
In 1929, the Foundation made its first
gift of $500 to the International Society
for Crippled Children. The
organization, created by Rotarian
Edgar F. “Daddy” Allen, later grew into
Easter Seals.
When Rotary founder Paul Harris died
in 1947, contributions began pouring
in to Rotary International, and the Paul
Harris Memorial Fund was created to
build the Foundation.
Why is Rotary called Rotary?
The members chose the name Rotary because initially they rotated subsequent
weekly club meetings to each other's offices, although within a year, the Chicago
club became so large it became necessary to adopt the now-common practice of a
regular meeting place.

3-H Grant funded a project to immunize 6 million Philippine children against polio.

Top 10 Reasons to Join a Rotary Club
Professional Networking: A founding principle of Rotary was to meet periodically to enjoy
camaraderie and enlarge one’s circle of business, community and professional acquaintances.
As the oldest service club in the world, Rotary club members represent a cross-section of the
community’s owners, executives, managers, political leaders, and professionals People who
make decisions and influence policy.
Service Opportunities: Club members have many opportunities for humanitarian service, both
locally and internationally. Service programs address such concerns as health care, hunger,
poverty, illiteracy, and the environment. Rotarians experience the fulfilment that comes from
giving back to the community.
International Awareness: With more than 34,000 clubs in over 200 countries & geographical
areas, Rotarians gain an understanding of humanitarian issues through international service
projects and exchange programs. One of Rotary’s highest objectives is to build goodwill and
peace throughout the world.
Friendship: Rotary was founded on fellowship, an ideal that remains a major attraction of
membership today. Club members enjoy the camaraderie with like-minded professionals, and
club projects offer additional opportunities to develop enduring friendships. Rotary club members
who travel have friendly contacts in almost every city in the world.
Good Citizenship: Weekly Rotary club programs keep members informed about what is taking
place in the community, nation, and world and motivated to make a difference.
Youth and Family: Rotary sponsors one of the world’s largest youth exchange, educational
exchange, and scholarship programs. Rotary clubs provide innovative training opportunities and
mentoring for young leaders and involve family members in a wide range of social and service
activities.
Entertainment: Social activities give Rotarians a chance to let loose and have fun. Every Rotary
club and district hosts parties and social activities that offer diversions from today’s demanding
professional and personal schedules. Conferences, conventions, assemblies, and social events
provide entertainment as well as Rotary information, education, and service.
Ethical Environment: Encouraging high ethical standards in one’s profession and respect for
all worthy vocations has been a hallmark of Rotary from its earliest days. In their business and
professional lives, Rotarians abide by The Four-Way Test:
Of the things we think, say or do:
1) Is it the TRUTH?
2) Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3) Will it BUILD GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4) Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Leadership Development
Rotary is an organization of successful professionals. Team building, fundraising, public
speaking, planning, organization, and communication are just a sampling of the leadership skills
that club members can exercise and enhance. Being a Rotary leader provides further
experience in learning how to motivate, inspire, and guide others. Members can participate in
the three-day Rotary Leadership Institute courses offered at various times during the year.
Rotary’s classification system ensures that a club’s membership represents a variety of the
community’s professional men and women, including leaders in business, industry, the arts,
government, sports, the military, and religion. Rotary clubs are non-political, non-religious, and
open to all cultures, races, and creeds.

THE WORK OF ROTARY IS ON-GOING. DECEMBER IS ……..
COMING NEXT MONTH
DECEMBER
DISEASE
PREVENTION
AND
TREATMENT
MONTH
Rotary is dedicated to fighting and preventing disease. Disease Prevention and Treatment is one
of Rotary’s Six Area of Focus. Disease and illness result in pain and injury. Prolonged severe
illness may result in loss of employment and income. It affects families. It affects quality of life.
Rotary and Rotarians are committed to helping people to live healthy lives. Our signature project
in this area is Polio Eradication. But polio is not the only disease or aspect of healthy living on
which Rotarians have expended energies.
Rotary's top priority is the eradication of polio, but our members take on far greater responsibilities
to fight disease. They set up health camps and training facilities in undeveloped countries and in
communities struggling with HIV/AIDS and malaria. They also design and build the infrastructure
for doctors, nurses, governments, and partners to reach the one in six people in the world who
can't afford to pay for health care.
December is Family Month: It is often said that children are the future of the world. Healthy and
happy children are key to achieving Rotary's goal of building international understanding and
peace in the world. There is no better place to nourish a young mind than in a family whose basic
needs have been met and who can spend time together.
The world relies on Rotary to tackle these global challenges, and to set an
example for others to follow.
